Benefits of MAVCC Membership (What’s in it for me?)

  • Each member state selects a representative to serve on the MAVCC Board of Directors, and the Board determines the direction of MAVCC, including establishing priorities for curriculum development.  Your state has an equal voice in decisions.  All expenses are paid for board members to attend board meetings.
  • Member state industry/business/labor representatives and educators participate on advisory committees to help plan and validate instructional materials.  All expenses are paid for committee members to attend curriculum meetings.
  • Instructional materials developed by MAVCC are offered at up to 50% off non-member prices, and
    • Reflect the competency-based concepts that (1) Performance objectives are specified prior to instruction, (2) Cognitive information and psychomotor activities are developed to support the objectives, and (3) A criterion-referenced evaluation system is used to measure a student’s competency
    • Can help develop program uniformity
    • Can assist in establishing articulation agreements between secondary and postsecondary institutions
    • Align with industry standards/competencies, including NATEF/ASE, PrintED, AST, ACF, EIF/EIA, and NEC codes.  Because these standards have been established by nationally recognized professional organizations, students are assured that content is relevant and reflects real work applications and experiences
    • Assist teachers in planning for instruction
    • Help provide accountability
  • MAVCC provides a variety of services to member states, including:
    • $7,000 worth of curriculum and professional development training ($5,000 credit to purchase materials, $2,000 training, travel, etc.).  Thus, 35% of membership dollars are returned to the state
    •  Additional training and support through its workshops and presentations on curriculum development and utilization, integration of academic and workplace skills, job safety, recruitment and retention of nontraditional students, and integration of the Internet into the classroom
    • Complimentary copies of instructional materials for use by board member and/or program specialists and teacher educators
    • Special discounts on safety training CDs and nontraditional careers tool kits
  • Member states have an opportunity to network with each other and share instructional materials that have been developed independently of MAVCC
  • The print and online catalogs provide “one-stop-shopping” for MAVCC customers, as we maintain a product line that includes instructional materials from others producers/publishers that meet MAVCC standards of quality.
  • Agreements with other vendors allow MAVCC to offer safety-training products to member state educators at greatly reduced prices.
